Barcamp Ghent 2
I am organizing the follow-up to the first Barcamp Ghent along with a few other geeks. The first Barcamp in Ghent was very well received and tons of fun so we had to do it again. In just over 6 hours, ninety-one people signed up at the wiki. At the time of writing there’s nine spots left, so hurry up if you want to join the party come November 29th!
For this edition, I will be trying to get people to participate more than before. Barcamp is not just another geek meetup: it’s an unconference in which the content is provided by the participants. I want to stress that everyone is expected to participate in some way, even if this is your first Barcamp. Allow me to quote the first sentence of the official Barcamp.org wiki:
BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from participants.
Previous editions of Barcamp always had English as the main language, and you were sort of expected to do your presentations in English. At Barcamp Ghent there was one French-speaking participant, while the 94 other people spoke Dutch as their mother tongue. This led to presentations where 30 native Dutch speakers listened to a native Dutch speaker presenting in English — not always the most understandable English — which didn’t really help with improving the quality of the presentations.
Hope to see you there.
So this means that this time the presentations can be done in Dutch ?
